Thanks for considering eDeft Marketing for your web solutions! We will outline the basics of a website and what you need to know and do before getting your own so nothing is confusing moving forward.
We understand it is hard to build your business and take care of your customers and getting into the technicals of having a website isn’t the easiest when you’re trying to manage your business as best as you can. That’s where we come in!
Now let’s get right into it!
The three main elements that every website needs are a domain, a hosting plan, and a Content Management System(CMS)
Your domain is the name of the website. Every website in the world has a domain because without one there wouldn’t be a name to search. An example of a domain would be yourbusinessname.com. You can check the domain name checker to see if the domain you want is available to buy.
What’s the cost and where do you buy your domain?
The average price of a domain is $20 for the entire year. In some cases, you may pay more because a third party might own the domain you want and are charging a one-time fee to transfer ownership.
To see if your domain is available checkout Google Domains.
Hosting is where your website will live. The way I explain how your domain and hosting work is like real estate. Your hosting is the land that the house will be built on and the domain is the framing of the house.
What’s the cost and where do you buy your hosting?
The average price for hosting is around $80-$200 for the entire year depending on which hosting provider you chose. We highly recommend Siteground as that is what we use personally.
Great! Now you have both a domain and hosting for your website. You will now need a CMS to start managing your content and building your website. You have definitely heard of the CMS that we use on all of our websites. It’s called WordPress! WordPress is an open-source website creation platform that 43% of the internet’s websites use. That’s almost half of the World Wide Web(www.)
What’s the cost and where do you get it?
The cost of your CMS all depends where you choose to go. If you chose one of the (do it all) platforms meaning they sell you a domain, hosting, and web builder it can cost between $200-$600 for the year. WordPress on the other hand is an open-source platform meaning all you need is your own domain and hosting to use.
Treat your website like a 24/7 365 day rain or shine salesperson that will always be selling as long as your website is live and you’re getting traffic.
There’s no employee that you can pay that will promote your business as much as a website will.
Over 50% of all website traffic comes from mobile devices.
With that in mind wouldn’t it make sense for your website to be mobile optimized? We think so, and thats why all our websites are optimized for mobile and tablet use!
Here at eDeft Marketing, we are all about being open and straightforward with everyone. We don’t want to trick anyone or want anyone to move forward with something they don’t understand especially if it’s for your business.
